BYFIELD: Hattie (Short) Lacroix
, 81, of Byfield, died Friday Oct. 2, 2009 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. She was the widow of Gerald R. Lacroixand Richard Rogers.
Mrs. Lacroix was born in Newbury on October 24, 1927, daughter of the late Henry and Alberta (Steele) Short.
Hattie was retired as a supervisor from AT&T Technologies (now Lucent) in North Andover. Following retirement she worked at the Stone House Farm in Boxford and also at Paint In Thyme in Byfield. She was a 65-year member of the Quascacunguen Grange in Byfield and a member of the Heritage Pamona County Grange. She also belonged to the State and National Grange. She was an avid knitter and crafter. She spent many hours as a volunteer at the Grange building Topsfield Fair until her illness. Hattie is survived by her daughter Lou-Ann Rogers and fiancĂ© Kenneth Bower of Byfield, two stepdaughters & their husbands, Diane & Glen Turner of Woonsocket, RI and Suzanne & John DiCicco of Barrington, RI. A stepson Marcel Lacroix of Blackstone, 9 grandchildren Ilenia Figuereo, Claudia Rodriguez, Madelyn Rodriguez & Fiance’ Mitchell Rosario, Jessica & J.R. Bower, Amy Rectinwal, Becky Lacroix, Melissa Picard and Kimberly Barrette. Five great grandchildren, Carla Figuereo, Nadelyn & Sarnel Rosario and Madison & Dominic Bower. Five brothers, Henry M. Short, Jr. of Hampton, NH,
John Short, Robert Short & George Short, all of Byfield, and Wayne Brooks of FL. Two sisters, Miriam D’Errico of Tewksbury and Arlena Gagnan of Salisbury. Hattie was predeceased  by a sister, Margaret Charrette and a brother, William Brooks.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 7th at 11:00 AM in the Community United Methodist Church, Main St, Byfield. Burial will be in the South Byfield Cemetery, Georgetown. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8:00 PM in the F.S. Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent St., Rowley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Building 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
